Bhavya Vashi

Team Library Liaison

Bhavya is a Neurobiology and Physiology major with a goal to go to medical school. She is from North Potomac, MD and is involved on campus as the Treasurer of the American Medical Students Association and as a CONNECT mentor for the Gemstone program. She has a second degree black belt in karate and enjoys playing the violin. 

Chinmayi Pamala

Team Ombudsperson

Chinmayi is a Physiology & Neurobiology major on the pre-med track. She is from Frederick, MD and is involved in the Hindu Students Council. She is co-President of the Maryland Science Olympiad club and enjoys volunteering at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Her hobbies include baking, traveling, and trying new foods!

Kyeisha Laurence

Team Webmaster

Kyeisha is a Cell Biology and Genetics Major major and French minor with aspirations to go to medical school. She is from Saint Martin, a small island in the Caribbean. She is on the Gems100 steering committee and is the Director of Strategic Outreach for the Gemstone program, works on the executive board of Charles R Drew Pre-Health Society on campus, and enjoys being apart of the Caribbean Student Association.

Mansu Shrestha

Team Ombudsperson

Mansu Shrestha is a Cell Biology and Genetics major from Gaithersburg, MD. She is active in the Gemstone program as a camp leader and section leader. She is also a Tell-A-Terp ambassador on campus. In her free time, she enjoys watching shows and movies from around the world. She is excited about Team CASCADE and expects to learn a lot. After graduation, she plans on going to graduate school.

Marcus Smith

Team Treasurer 

Marcus Smith Jr. is a General Biology major and is from Clinton, MD. He has aspirations of becoming an interventional radiologist. In his free time, he plays basketball, goes to gym with friends, works as an electrian, and reads new books about radiology. 

Morgan Robinson

Team Mentor Liaison 

Morgan is a Cell Biology and Genetics major and Philosophy minor from Potomac, MD. She is aiming to be a patent lawyer but also has interests in researching the connections between epigenetic and diet. She is involved in Alpha Phi Omega, Federal Fellows, is an Honors Ambassador, and is a section leader for the Gemstone Program. She enjoys traveling, hiking, swimming, and running.

Naja Fadul

Team Clerk

Naja is a Neurobiology and Physiology major from Bethesda, MD. She is the co-founder and director of Girls-4-Girls, NGO, and works at the College Park Medical Center. She aspires to go to medical school and enjoys biking and reading in her spare time. 

Rohan Shah

Team Researcher

Rohan is a Biochemistry major who is considering a PhD in the future and pursuing research. He is from Howard County, MD and does research in an organic chemistry lab. Rohan enjoys learning how to climb and is excited for the research that will be conducted on this team.

Sindhu Murugan

Team Mentor Liaison

Sindhu is a Physiology and Neurobiology major in the pre-med track. She is from West Windsor, New Jersey. Currently, she is a Gems100 section leader, CONNECT mentor and is a part of the Alternative Breaks Program. In her free time, she enjoys singing, reading, traveling, and listening to music. 

Stephanie Moy

Team Liaison

Stephanie is Physiology & Neurobiology and Psychology double major with plans to be doing research in the future.
She is from Elkridge, MD and is involved in Erasable Inc., UMD’s only all-improv performance group as well as Club Softball and Orientation Advising. Her interests include writing, petting other people’s dogs, and a fun fact is that she has been to Iceland!

Zach Kasica

Team Researcher

Zach is a Bioengineering major with plans to pursue a MD/PhD program. He is from Frederick, MD. Other than Gemstone, he is apart of Engineering World Health, the Biomedical Engineering Society, and Intramural  Soccer. His hobbies include soccer, basketball, and hiking. 

Team Mentor

Dr. Frauwirth is a lecturer in the department of Cell Biology & Molecular Genetics at the University of Maryland. He received his Ph.D in immunology at the University of California-Berkeley. His research focused on  T cell activation and peripheral tolerance mechanisms. 

Team Librarian

Celina is the librarian for Government Documents, Law, Criminology and Criminal Justice. In addition to her work with on-campus departments, she also works with federal depository libraries in Maryland, Delaware, and DC. As a subject liaison librarian, she provides research support to the UMD community via consultations and instruction. She has a B.A. from Lehigh University in Russian Studies and English and M.S in the Science of Information from the University of Michigan's School of Information in 2004.
